The test environment of Skydome Consulting

Where we test it before you trust it.

Skydome Lab is where we model and simulate enterprise networks, security and collaboration systems, on premises and in the cloud. A change is tried here before it reaches a client's system, our CollabPlane software is proven here against real equipment, and our training labs are built here.

What the lab is for

Modeling a change before it is made
Before a firewall migration, a WAN redesign or a segmentation project, we build a model of the network and run the change there first. Failures happen in the lab, where they cost nothing.
Product testing
CollabPlane software is run against real call managers, gateways, session border controllers and cloud calling platforms here before a release reaches customers. A feature is not called working until a real call has proved it.
Evaluations and demonstrations
Demonstrations and evaluations of CollabPlane products can run against lab systems, so you can see the software handle real signaling and media before connecting it to your own network.
Training labs
The hands-on exercises in Skydome Learning courses are built and run here, so the lab an engineer works through behaves like the system they will run.
Reproducing problems
Before we change a client system, we try to reproduce the fault here. A fix that has been tested on equipment is worth more than one that has only been reasoned about.

What is in it

Physical and virtual systems, on premises and in the cloud, that we can assemble into a model of the environment in question.

Networks, modeled and real
Routed and switched networks, wide-area links and wireless, built from physical and virtual devices. Using network modeling platforms such as Cisco Modeling Labs (CML) and EVE-NG, we can model a campus, a set of branches or a data center, and simulate traffic, changes and failures on it.
Security
Firewalls, remote-access and site-to-site VPN, and segmentation policy, including Cisco and Palo Alto Networks platforms. Rules and migrations are tested here before they reach a production network.
On-premises systems
Servers, call control, gateways and session border controllers, connected the way an enterprise connects them.
Cloud systems
Cloud platforms and the links between them and on-premises networks, so hybrid designs can be tested end to end.
Voice and collaboration
Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco CUBE, AudioCodes and Ribbon session border controllers, carrier SIP trunks, and Webex Calling, Zoom Phone and Microsoft Teams.

How we test

  1. Build it the way it is run

We model the environment in question: its topology, its platforms, its security policy and its connections to the cloud.

  2. Send real traffic

Tests use real traffic and real calls across the modeled path. A simulation is a useful first step, and where real equipment is available it is not the last one.

  3. Break it on purpose

We test the failure cases: the link that drops, the blocked port, the rule in the wrong order, the server that does not answer.

  4. Record what was proved

Each result states what was tested, on which versions, and what remains untested.

Using a lab system

For anyone taking part in an evaluation, a demonstration or a course.

Access is by invitation
Lab systems are for people we are working with. If you need access, ask your Skydome Consulting or CollabPlane contact.
Use test data
Do not upload production captures, customer records or real credentials to a lab system unless we have agreed that with you in writing.
Expect resets
Lab systems are rebuilt, upgraded and wiped as testing requires, sometimes without notice. Keep your own copy of anything you need.
Not a production service
Nothing under this domain is offered as a live service or carries an availability commitment. The hosted CollabPlane products are separate.
